ABOUT US

The Torrington Area Model Railroaders is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization consisting of amateur railroaders, modelers, and hobbyists.  Our mission is to promote the hobby of Model Railroading through educating, informing, and entertaining the public.

Our goal is the establishment and operation of a world-class model railroad.

Founded in 1996, the TAMR began as a hobbyist club with 8 members developing the concept of 2 x 4 modules. Over the years, the club moved to its present location, starting with a small meeting area and a layout. As the membership grew, the club needed to expand to the entire building.  At this time the club has approximately 30 members from various parts of the state. The club has designed and built a large HO scale modular layout, an N scale modular layout and a G scale display, all in the same building.

The club acts as an educational center dedicated to model trains, building and design.  Model Railroading is a multi-faceted hobby incorporating disciplines such as engineering, architecture, woodworking, electronics, and information technology, in addition to being a perfect medium in which to educate, inform, and entertain the public.
